Updated October 29, 2026.

Part of the Oct 28 HHS policy (topical or oral forms only).

What is KPV?

KPV is a tripeptide, meaning it's made of just three amino acids (lysine, proline and valine).

It comes from the tail end of alpha-MSH, a hormone your body makes naturally that's involved in calming inflammation.

What the research is looking at

KPV is being studied for its role in:

  • Inflammation balance
  • Gut and immune system balance
  • Skin health

FDA's scientists noted that human data is still limited.

Where KPV stands with FDA

On October 28, 2026, HHS announced it does not intend to take enforcement action against state-licensed compounding pharmacies that compound KPV, while FDA goes through the formal rulemaking process to decide whether to add it to the official 503A compounding list.

This is not FDA approval. KPV is not an FDA-approved drug.

It's an interim policy that HHS says it may revisit at any time, for example if a safety or quality issue comes up. Formal rulemaking is expected to take about 12 to 24 months.

Under the HHS policy, KPV (acetate) is covered for topical and oral use only (not injectable), as a single-peptide product.

Good to know

  • KPV is also part of our Klow Stack. Because the Klow Stack is a blend, it is not part of the Oct 28 HHS policy, which covers single-peptide products only.
