Updated October 29, 2026.
Not part of the Oct 28 HHS policy. Compounded NAD+ is not FDA-approved.
What is NAD+?
NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is a coenzyme, a helper molecule found in every cell in your body.
Your cells use it to turn food into energy, to support the mitochondria and to help repair DNA.
NAD+ isn't technically a peptide, but it's often offered alongside peptides as part of a healthy aging plan.
Research suggests NAD+ levels decline with age.
What the research is looking at
NAD+ is being studied for its role in:
- Cellular energy and mitochondrial function
- Healthy aging
- Metabolic health
- Mental clarity and focus
Much of the research so far has been in the lab and in animals, or has used oral NAD+ precursors such as NR and NMN rather than NAD+ itself.
Human studies of NAD+ given directly are small and early, and long-term effects aren't known.
Who it may be for
Adults focused on energy, recovery, mental clarity and healthy aging often ask about NAD+.
Results vary from person to person, and our provider will talk with you about realistic expectations.
Regulatory status
Compounded NAD+ is not FDA-approved. It is not part of the October 28, 2026 HHS peptide policy.
NAD is on FDA's list of compounding ingredients under evaluation. While that review continues, FDA allows state-licensed pharmacies to compound it for individual prescriptions, under certain conditions.
FDA has warned pharmacies not to use food-grade NAD+ for sterile products, because of contamination risk. That's one reason we work with an FDA-inspected 503(a) pharmacy that provides full testing reports.
Safety and side effects
Side effects reported with NAD+ can include:
- Redness, soreness or a burning feeling where it's given
- Flushing or a warm feeling
- Nausea or stomach upset
- Headache, lightheadedness or tiredness
- Chest tightness or muscle cramps, which usually ease quickly
NAD+ may not be right for you if:
- You're pregnant, breastfeeding or trying to conceive.
- You're under 18.
- You have active cancer or a history of cancer.
- You have heart disease or low blood pressure.
Our provider will review your health history before prescribing.

Common questions
Is NAD+ a peptide?
No. It's a coenzyme, not a peptide, but it's often part of the same healthy aging conversation.
Is this the same as an NAD+ supplement?
No. Oral supplements usually contain precursors such as NR or NMN, which your body converts to NAD+. A prescription NAD+ product is different, and our provider can explain the options.
When might I notice a difference?
It varies. Some people say they notice changes in energy within a few weeks, and others don't. Our provider will set realistic expectations with you.
Do I need bloodwork?
A bloodwork membership is not required for peptides. Our provider may recommend labs based on your health history.
How to get started
