Updated October 29, 2026.

Not part of the Oct 28 HHS policy. Compounded sermorelin is not FDA-approved.

What is sermorelin?

Sermorelin is a peptide version of the first 29 amino acids of growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH), a hormone your body makes naturally.

Instead of supplying growth hormone directly, sermorelin signals your pituitary gland to release its own, in its natural rhythm.

Natural growth hormone levels decline with age, which is why sermorelin is a common topic in healthy aging conversations.

Why patients ask about it

Patients often ask about sermorelin for:

  • Sleep quality
  • Energy
  • Recovery
  • Body composition goals

Results vary from person to person, and our provider will talk with you about realistic expectations.

Regulatory history

Sermorelin was once an FDA-approved drug, sold under the brand name Geref.

The manufacturer discontinued Geref, and its approval was withdrawn in 2009 at the manufacturer's request. In 2013, FDA determined that Geref was not withdrawn for reasons of safety or effectiveness.

Today, sermorelin is available through compounding pharmacies. Compounded sermorelin is not FDA-approved and is not the same product as Geref.

Sermorelin is not part of the October 28, 2026 HHS peptide policy. Its compounding status falls under general federal and state compounding rules, which may change.
